About the Artist
A Brief History
Bronwyn Hill is a Brisbane based painter whose practice predominantly focuses on portraiture and figurative representation. Recognized for her sensual photo-real oil paintings, full of poetic narratives and gentle observation, her work often exploring ideas of self-analysis and introspection within moments of personal solitude. Imbued with a sense of stillness and contemplation, Hill’s use of light and shadow and its emotional impact is a recurring feature of her images, as is her subtle use of colour and exquisite depiction of natural forms.
In her most recent paintings Hill collapses the traditional boundaries between portraiture and still life. Working within a rigorously minimalist aesthetic, her subjects - figures, bodies and animals alike - are presented as isolated forms within a field of pure, light filled clarity. Stripped of narrative proclivities or cluttered contexts her subjects are transported to a place of contemplative otherness.
