ELIGIBILE CRITERIA

1. The entry must be the original work of the artist.

2. There is no limit to the number of entries an artist can submit.

3. Entries must be submitted via online entry only. Entrants will be asked for the artists’ details, image details, an optional 50 word statement about the work and a JPEG image of the work (files should be 72dpi and not exceed 1MB). A non-refundable $49 entry fee (incl GST) must also be paid either online using a credit card or direct deposit. Entries will not be accepted until entry fee has been received.

4. Entries must be received by 11.59pm Friday 15 May 2020.

5. The competition is open to all forms of 2D artwork including, but not limited to, all paint mediums, drawings, works on paper and photography.

6. The size of the work must not exceed 61cm (24inches) in height or width, not including frame (which must be of a narrow width). Entries may not be hung if the framing is deemed to be excessive.

7. Multi-panel pieces are accepted and regarded as one work but must not exceed 61cm total. Clear instructions must be provided for installation if selected.

8. All entries must be for sale and the Lethbridge Gallery Trust will retain a 40% commission in the event of the work being sold.



JUDGING AND EXHIBITION CRITERIA

9. There will be two rounds of judging. In the first round of pre-selection, the judges will select finalist works for exhibition from the images provided and finalists shall be notified by Monday 25 May 2020.

10. Artworks selected for exhibition will be required to be delivered to Lethbridge Gallery, 136 Latrobe Terrace, Paddington, Qld 4064 between 10am–5pm on Wednesday 10 June – Saturday 13 June 2020 at the artists’ expense.

11. Entries must be suitably framed for hanging and must have ‘D’ rings and hanging wire. This includes works on paper as no artworks will be pinned to walls. A stretched canvas is considered framed. Please note that wet paintings will not be accepted.

12. Entries must be clearly labelled on the back with:
• artist’s name
• address
• phone number
• title of work
• year of completion
• medium
• price

13. Finalists’ artworks must be available for the duration of the exhibition 18 - 27 June 2020. Sold online artworks are to be delivered to the gallery at the artists expense. 

14. Reasonable care will be taken by the gallery in handling the artwork however neither the trust nor the gallery will be responsible for any loss or damage whatsoever caused to any work while in its custody. Insurance for the artwork during the exhibition and in transit remains the responsibility of the artist.

15. Finalist works will be judged by a panel of judges from the Lethbridge Gallery Trust including an established and practicing artist and gallery director. Judging criteria is based on three equally evaluated criteria of technical skill, originality and creativity. The judges’ decision will be final and no negotiation will be entered into.

16. The winners of the $20,000 first prize and the commended awards will be announced at the official opening on Saturday 20 June 2020.

17. The winning work of the $20,000 prize will be acquired by the Lethbridge Gallery Trust.

18. The exhibition will be open during regular gallery hours from 18 - 27 June 2020.

19. By entering, the artist consents to images of their work being reproduced and their biographical information used for the purposes of advertising and publicising the exhibition and for catalogue production.

20. At the conclusion of the exhibition all unsold works must be collected from Lethbridge Gallery, 136 Latrobe Terrace, Paddington, Qld on Thursday 2 or Friday 3 July 2020. Works from interstate and overseas will be repacked and dispatched as soon as possible after the close of the exhibition if appropriate arrangements have been made by the artist at their expense.

21. Any works not collected within the time specified will be stored at Lethbridge Gallery and in the absence of appropriate arrangements at the expiry of a further one month will be deemed to be the property of Lethbridge Gallery and may be sold or otherwise disposed of by the trust at their discretion.

22. Payment to artists for sold works will be processed within one month of the closure of the exhibition.
