ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

1. The entry must be the original work of the artist.

2. The competition is open to all forms of 2D and 3D artwork including, but not limited to, all paint mediums, drawings, sculpture, works on paper and photography.

3. The gallery continues its long-standing support of artists and their dedication to developing their own practice, therefore any artworks entirely generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be ineligible for entry.

4. Artworks depicting offensive themes will not be included in the final selection of artworks.

5. There is no limit to the number of entries an artist can submit.

6. Entries must have been completed within three years of the closing date.

7. Entries must be submitted via online entry only. Entrants will be asked for the artists’ details:

  • Artist name, artwork title, size, medium and price
  • A 50-word statement about the work
  • A JPEG image of the work (files should not exceed 4MB).
  • A non-refundable $52 entry fee (incl GST) must also be paid online using a credit card, or via bank transfer. Entries will not be accepted until entry fee has been received.

8. Entries must be received by 11.59pm Friday 11th July 2025

9. Entry fees are non-refundable.

 

SIZE

10. The size of a 2D work must not exceed 61cm (24 inches) in height or width, not including frame (which must be of a narrow width). Entries may not be hung if the framing is deemed to be excessive. The size of 3D works must not exceed 61cm in height, width or depth. 

11. Multi-panel 2D artworks are accepted and regarded as one work but must not exceed 61cm total. Clear instructions must be provided for installation if selected.

 

JUDGING AND EXHIBITION CRITERIA

12. Shortlisting of entries will take place in July 2025 by the Lethbridge Gallery panel.

13. Judging is based on three equally evaluated criteria of creativity, originality, and skill.

14. The panel will select between 180 – 200 finalists.

15. The finalist exhibition is intended to display the wide variety of mediums available to contemporary artists and Lethbridge Gallery reserves the right to curate the finalists’ exhibition.

16. Finalists will be notified of their selection by July 25th, 2025.

17. All selected artworks must be installation ready when they arrive at the gallery with ‘D’ rings and hanging wire. This includes works on paper as no artworks will be pinned to walls. A stretched canvas is considered framed. Wet paintings will not be accepted.

If there is room, entries must be clearly labelled on the back with:

• Artist’s name
• Address
• Phone number
• Title of work
• Year of completion
• Medium
• Price

18. Artworks selected as finalists will be exhibited in the gallery from 29 August – 13 September 2025.

19. Reasonable care will be taken by the gallery in handling the artwork however neither the trust nor the gallery will be responsible for any loss or damage whatsoever caused to any work while in its custody.

20. Works may not be withdrawn during the exhibition under any circumstances.

 

SALES

21. All entries must be for sale and the Lethbridge Gallery Trust will retain a 40% commission in the event of the work being sold.

22. The price cannot be changed once the entry form is submitted and remains fixed for the duration of the Exhibition.

23. The gallery reserves the right to authorise a 10% discount of sales where required. 

24. Payments to artists will be processed as soon as the client has collected the work, or within 40 days of the exhibition closing date- whichever is sooner.

 

FREIGHT

25. Artists selected as finalists will be responsible for the cost of freighting artworks to and from Lethbridge Gallery.

26. Unsold works must be collected within two weeks of the exhibition’s conclusion.

27. All original packing materials will be retained where possible, with unsold artworks repacked the same way as they were delivered.

28. Insurance for the artwork in transit remains the responsibility of the artist.

29. Any works not collected within the specified time will be stored at Lethbridge Gallery. If no arrangements are made within one month after this period, the work will become the property of Lethbridge Gallery and may be sold or otherwise disposed of at the gallery’s discretion.

 

SALON DES REFUSES

30. All artworks submitted to the main competition and not selected for the physical exhibition are eligible for inclusion in the Salon des Refusés.

31. To be considered solely for the finalist exhibition, artists must opt out of the Salon des Refusés through the prize entry form.

32. Only works that meet the competition’s original criteria will be considered. Artists will be notified in their work is selected for the Salon des Refusés.

33. The Salon des Refusés will be an online only exhibition hosted on the gallery’s website from 29 August – 13 September 2025.

34. All selected artworks must be available for sale throughout the duration of the online exhibition.

35. The Gallery will facilitate all sales of artworks featured in the Salon des Refusés.

36. In the event of a sale, the artist is responsible for packaging and shipping the work to the gallery.

 

DECISIONS

37. The Lethbridge Gallery Director will select the artwork of one finalist to be awarded the acquisitive prize of $20,000.

38. All Highly Commended awards will be selected by our sponsors Bienarte, Art of Framing, Art Shed Brisbane and Brisbane Digital Images.

39. The winning work of the $20,000 prize will be acquired by the Lethbridge Gallery Trust once prize money has been paid.

40. The judges’ decision will be final, and no negotiation will be entered.

 

FINAL

41. By entering, the artist consents to images of their work being reproduced and their biographical information used for the purposes of advertising and publicising the exhibition and for catalogue production.

42. The Artist guarantees that they meet the eligibility requirements and agree to be bound by the Terms and Conditions of the 2025 Small-Scale Art Award
