Conditions of Entry

ELIGIBILITY CRITERA

1. Landscape is conventionally defined as an area of natural scenery. For the prize, Lethbridge Gallery have extended the definition to include urban-scapes, cityscapes, seascapes and interiors. The prize invites traditional, innovative and unconventional interpretations of Australian landscape.

2. The competition is open to all forms of 2D and 3D artwork including, but not limited to, all paint mediums, drawings, digital works, works on paper, sculpture and installation. Giclee reproductions of original artworks are excluded. 

3. Lethbridge Gallery welcomes figures in the landscape should they appear.

4. Artworks depicting offensive themes will not be included in the final selection of artworks.

5. The entry must be the original work of the artist.

6. The gallery continues its long-standing support of artists and their dedication to developing their own practice, therefore any artworks entirely generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be ineligible for entry.

7. Entries must have been completed within three years of the closing date.

8. There is no limit to the number of entries an artist may submit. Multiple entries can be entered on the same entry form at $60 per entry.

9. Entries must be submitted via online entry only. Entrants will be asked for the artists’ details:

• Artist name, artwork title, size, medium and price
• A 50-word statement about the work
• A JPEG image of the work (files should not exceed 4MB).
• A non-refundable $60 entry fee (incl GST) must also be paid online using a credit card, or via bank transfer. Entries will not be accepted until entry fee has been received.

10. Entries must be received by 11.59pm Friday 7th March 2025.

11. Entry fees are non-refundable.

 

SIZE

12. The size of the 2D work must not exceed 183cm in height or 300cm in width, not including frame (which must be of a narrow width). Hanging entries may not exceed 15kg per panel. The size of 3D works must not exceed 183cm in height, width or depth. 

13. Multi-panel pieces are accepted and regarded as one work but must not exceed 300cm in total width. Clear instructions must be provided for installation if selected.

 

JUDGING AND EXHIBITION CRITERIA

14. Shortlisting of entries will take place in March 2025 by a panel appointed by the Gallery Director.

15. Judging criteria is based on three equally evaluated criteria of: successful interpretation of the landscape or interior, originality and technical proficiency.

16. The panel will select between 60 – 70 finalists.

17. The finalist exhibition is intended to display the wide variety of mediums available to contemporary artists and Lethbridge Gallery reserves the right to curate the finalists’ exhibition.

18. Finalists will be notified by 25 March 2025.

19. All selected artworks must be installation ready when they arrive at the gallery with ‘D’ rings and hanging wire. This includes works on paper as no artworks will be pinned to walls. A stretched canvas is considered framed. Wet paintings will not be accepted.

20. Entries must be clearly labelled on the back with:

• Artist’s name
• Address
• Phone number
• Title of work
• Year of completion
• Medium
• Price

21. Artworks selected as finalists will be exhibited in the gallery from 8 – 27 May 2025

22. Finalists' artworks may be selected for an extended travelling exhibition. Finalists' will be notified by 19 May 2025 of their selection.

23. Reasonable care will be taken by the gallery in handling the artwork however neither the trust nor the gallery will be responsible for any loss or damage whatsoever caused to any work while in its custody.

24. Works may not be withdrawn during the exhibition under any circumstances.

 

SALES

25. All entries must be for sale and the Lethbridge Gallery Trust will retain a 40% commission in the event of the work being sold.

26. The price cannot be changed once the entry form is submitted and remains fixed for the duration of the Exhibition.

27. The gallery reserves the right to authorise a 10% discount of sales where required. 

28. Payments to artists will be processed as soon as the client has collected the work, or within 40 days of the exhibition closing date- whichever is sooner.

 

FREIGHT

29. Artists selected as finalists will be responsible for the cost of freighting artworks to and from Lethbridge Gallery.

30. Unsold works must be collected within two weeks of the exhibition’s conclusion.

31. All original packing materials will be retained where possible, with unsold artworks repacked the same way as they were delivered.

32. Insurance for the artwork in transit remains the responsibility of the artist.

33. Any works not collected within the specified time will be stored at Lethbridge Gallery. If no arrangements are made within one month after this period, the work will become the property of Lethbridge Gallery and may be sold or otherwise disposed of at the gallery’s discretion.

 

SALON DES REFUSES

34. All artworks submitted to the main competition and not selected for the physical exhibition are eligible for inclusion in the Salon des Refusés.

35. To be considered solely for the finalist exhibition, artists must opt out of the Salon des Refusés through the prize entry form.

36. Only works that meet the competition’s original criteria will be considered. Artists will be notified in their work is selected for the Salon des Refusés.

37. The Salon des Refusés will be an online only exhibition hosted on the gallery’s website from 8 – 27 May 2025.

38. All selected artworks must be available for sale throughout the duration of the online exhibition.

39. The Gallery will facilitate all sales of artworks featured in the Salon des Refusés.

40. In the event of a sale, the artist is responsible for packaging and shipping the work to the gallery.

 

LETHBRIDGE RESIDENCY AWARD

41. The Lethbridge Gallery Residency Award is a non-acquisitive prize offered as part of the 2025 main competition.

42. The award includes a 5-week residency program hosted by Lethbridge Gallery, with accommodation, $1,500 stipend, mentorship, and an opening event.

43. Artists must indicate their interest in being considered for the Residency Award by opting in via the entry form.

44. Only Lethbridge Landscape Prize finalists will be considered for the Residency Award.

45. The recipient will be selected based on the overall quality of their finalist work, their artistic potential, and alignment with the residency’s goals.

DECISIONS

46. The judges of the 2025 Lethbridge Landscape Prize will select the artwork of one finalist to be awarded the acquisitive prize of $30,000, and a non-acquisitive Lethbridge Residency Award. Both prizes will be announced at the official opening of the finalist exhibition on May 10, 2025.

47. Highly Commended awards will be selected by our sponsors Ray White Paddington, Art of Framing, and Pack & Send Milton.

48. The winning work of the $30,000 prize will be acquired by the Lethbridge Gallery Trust once prize money has been paid.

49. The judges’ decision will be final, and no negotiation will be entered.

 

FINAL

50. By entering, the artist consents to images of their work being reproduced and their biographical information used for the purposes of advertising and publicising the exhibition and for catalogue production.

51. The Artist guarantees that they meet the eligibility requirements and agree to be bound by the Terms and Conditions of the 2025 Lethbridge Landscape Prize.
